1Who we are and what this covers
Speclab ("we", "us", "the service") is an AI-assisted revision tool for A-level students, currently focused on the AQA Business specification (7132). These terms are the agreement between you and us covering your use of the website and the app.
By creating an account or using the service, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the service.
We are an independent product. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to AQA or any other exam board. References to specification codes and assessment objectives are for educational reference only.
2What the service is
Speclab provides:
- an AI chat tutor that quizzes you on specification subtopics;
- AI marking of practice answers, returning an indicative mark and an assessment-objective breakdown;
- a mistake log and score log that track what you got wrong and schedule it for retesting;
- progress tracking against the specification checklist.
It is a study aid. It is not a school, a tutoring service, an accredited course, or an official source of exam board guidance.
3Your account
- You need an account to use the service, and you must give an email address that's genuinely yours.
- You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account.
- One account is for one person. Please don't share your login with other students — if you'd like classmates to use it, they can each create a free account.
- If you're under 18, that's expected — this product is built for A-level students. If you're under 13, you may not create an account. If you're under 16, we'd encourage you to check with a parent, guardian or teacher first.
- Tell us as soon as possible if you think someone else has accessed your account.
4Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- resell, sublicense, or otherwise commercially redistribute access to the service;
- scrape, bulk-export, or systematically harvest content, questions, or model responses from the service;
- use automated scripts, bots, or shared accounts to get around usage limits, particularly the daily AI-marking allowance;
- reverse-engineer the service, or attempt to extract the underlying prompts or system instructions;
- use the AI features for anything other than revision — the tutor is not a general-purpose chatbot, and we may restrict accounts that repeatedly use it as one;
- submit content that is unlawful, abusive, harassing, or that contains other people's personal information;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise the security of the service or its infrastructure.
We'd also ask you not to use the service in a way that breaks your school or college's rules on academic honesty. Submitting AI-written work as your own coursework is your responsibility, not ours, and it's very likely against your centre's regulations.
5AI-generated content and its limits
Chat responses, explanations, worked examples, model answers, marks and assessment-objective feedback are all produced by third-party AI models. They may contain factual errors, out-of-date specification detail, misapplied mark scheme criteria, or marks that are too generous or too harsh. In our own testing, strong models graded the same real answer several marks apart, and the same model gave different marks to the same answer on different runs.
This means:
- marks returned by the service are indicative only and are not a prediction of, or a substitute for, your real grade;
- the service does not replace your teacher, your school, your official specification, or the exam board's published mark schemes — always check those where it matters;
- you should treat surprising or confidently-stated claims with the same suspicion you'd apply to any AI output, and verify them against your textbook or teacher.
We make no promise, express or implied, that using Speclab will improve your grades.
6Free tier, usage limits and fair use
AI chat tutoring is unlimited on all plans, and so is AI marking on short (1–4 mark) questions. AI marking on longer, exam-style questions (6 marks and up) is expensive for us to run, so the free tier includes a capped number of these per day (currently 5), which resets daily. These limits are enforced on our servers.
Even where usage is described as "unlimited", it's subject to reasonable fair use. If a single account generates volumes of traffic that clearly aren't one student revising — for example automated request loops, or use that suggests the account is shared across a class — we may rate-limit or suspend it. We'll try to contact you before doing so unless the activity is causing immediate harm to the service.
We may change the free tier's limits in future. If we reduce them, we'll give notice in the app before the change takes effect.
7Subscriptions, billing and cancellation
When Premium launches, our intention is that:
- Premium will be a rolling monthly subscription at the price shown on the pricing page, in pounds sterling, inclusive of any applicable VAT;
- payment will be taken by a third-party payment processor — we will not store your full card details ourselves;
- the subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel;
- you can cancel at any time from your settings page. Cancelling stops future payments; it doesn't refund the current month. You keep Premium access until the end of the period you've paid for, then drop back to the free tier with your data intact;
- if we change the price, existing subscribers will be given at least 30 days' notice by email before the new price applies to them, and can cancel before it does;
- if you're a consumer in the UK, your statutory rights — including your 14-day right to cancel a digital service, where it applies — are not affected by anything in these terms.
8Your content and our content
Your content — the answers you write, the messages you send, and your progress data — stays yours. You give us a limited licence to store it and to send it to our AI providers for processing, purely so that the service can function (mark your answer, keep your chat history, schedule your retests). We don't claim ownership of it and we don't sell it. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
Our content — the app itself, its design, its checklists, its prompts and its branding — belongs to us. You may use it personally for revision. You may not copy, redistribute, or build a competing product out of it.
Exam board material — specification codes, topic names and assessment objectives referenced in the app remain the property of the relevant exam board. We reference them for educational purposes and do not reproduce their copyrighted question papers or mark schemes wholesale.
9Availability and changes
We'll try to keep the service running, but we don't guarantee uptime. The service depends on third-party AI providers; if one of them is down, degraded or changes its terms, features may be temporarily unavailable or slower than usual. We may fall back to a different AI model without notice in order to keep the service working.
We may add, change, or remove features as the product develops. Where a change materially reduces what a paying subscriber receives, we'll give notice first.
10Suspension and termination
You can delete your account at any time from your settings, or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms — particularly section 4 — or where we're required to by law. For anything short of serious or repeated abuse, we'll contact you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we terminate a paid account without good cause, we'll refund the unused portion of that month.
11Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under UK law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Subject to that, the service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- exam results, grades, or academic outcomes — including where the AI marked something incorrectly or taught you something wrong;
- indirect or consequential loss;
- loss of data, where that loss wasn't caused by our negligence;
- interruptions caused by third-party providers.
Where we are liable, our total liability to you is capped at the greater of £50 or the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Free-tier users have paid us nothing, so the £50 figure applies.
12Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product develops — and we certainly will when this draft is reviewed properly. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that point means you accept the updated terms. The version number and date at the top of this page always reflect the current version.
13Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — though if you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
Questions about these terms, or anything else: hello@reviverevision.co.uk (placeholder address during development).
